About Department

The Department was established in 1997 to give professional degree in forestry with a aim to provide education to able students in the range of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Agra.
It is dedicated for promoting excellence in education and research in Forestry and allied subjects, to cater the need for trained forestry man power in the country. The syllabi include study of all segments of forestry, wildlife and all natural sciences with a view to provide the students with innovative knowledge and skills. The Department organizes lectures by eminent persons besides workshops, seminars, symposium, and conferences in the field of forestry. Excursions to premier institutes of forestry, plantation areas, natural forest, forest nurseries and forest based industries are the regular features of the curriculum to understand the subject in a better way. The Department is actively engaged in research and extension programmes through a number of research/ developmental projects corporated by State Forest Department, forest based industries, research institutions and NGOs for the attachment of students to provide better exposure of the practical/ field operations in forestry and also to facilitate the new vistas for training and placement of students. The alumni of this Department have joined Indian Forest Services, State Forest Services, and Scientists in ICFRE institutions, Faculty in Universities and professionals in esteemed NGOs.

The Department is running one academic programmes: M.Sc. Forestry(4 semesters/ 2years). The core objective of these programmes is to provide a bigger catchment and platform for natural/life sciences and agriculture sciences students to choose a professional degree in forestry.

Infrastructure

The Department has following facilities for teaching, research and extension activities: All required Laboratory Equipments .

Research Areas

The Department is engaged in conducting research in following: Forest tree improvement and mutagenesis; Forest Genetic Resources: Identification, propagation and cryopreservation; Watershed management; Assessment of air pollutants and its impact on forests of Uttarpradesh . Bioremediation and restoration of degraded lands; Nutrient dynamics; forest ecology and biodiversity; forest ecosystem etc.

Our Objectives

  • Provide for research and advancement and dissemination of knowledge in the field of forestry and environment.
  • Create consciousness about forest and environment among people through forestry extension programmes.
  • Carry out such other activities as may be necessary and desirable to further the safeguarding of environment and protection of forests and wildlife.
  • Furthering the prosecution of research in agriculture and allied sciences.
  • Nursery technology for unexploited tree species will be developed for production of quality planting stock.
  • Production technology of forest tree species for different situations including fragile environmental conditions will be developed.
  • Tree mortality, its causes and their management.
  • Biomass estimation and nutrient cycling in agroforestry systems.
  • Package of practices for production of important agroforestry tree species will be developed in Hindi and English both for the benefit of Farmers, Agriculture Officers, Forest Officers and Students.

  • Some of the students passed out by the Deptt. is working as Asstt. Prof. in Central University, FRI, ICFRE more than 25 students qualified for NET Examination conducted by ASRB (ICAR).
  • More than 45 Research papers, chapters in books and Review papers have been published in national and international Journals of repute.
